科技英語(yǔ)翻譯 被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài)及長(zhǎng)句的翻譯

1. 被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài)的翻譯

被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài)的廣泛使用是科技英語(yǔ)中的一大突出特點(diǎn)，漢語(yǔ)雖然也有被動(dòng)句，但使用范圍狹窄得多，翻譯英語(yǔ)被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài)時(shí)，既可以譯成漢語(yǔ)的被動(dòng)句，也可以譯成漢語(yǔ)的主動(dòng)句，而且譯法靈活多樣。

1.1 譯成漢語(yǔ)被動(dòng)句

將原文句子的主語(yǔ)仍然譯作主語(yǔ)，在謂語(yǔ)前加“被”或省略“被”；也可在行為主體前

加“被”、“由”、“受”、“為”、“所”等；還可以譯成“是……的”結(jié)構(gòu)。

The first stage of a rocket is thrown away only minutes after the rocket takes off. 火箭的第一級(jí)在火箭起飛后僅僅幾分鐘就被扔掉。

The volume of a gas is inversely proportional to its pressure if the temperature is held constant.

By using this new process the loss of metal was reduced to 20 percent．
采用這一新工藝使金屬耗損降低為原來(lái)的20%。

Care should be taken at all times to protect the instrument from dust and damp．

應(yīng)當(dāng)始終注意保護(hù)儀器，使其不沾染灰塵，不受潮。

1.2 譯成漢語(yǔ)主動(dòng)句

(1) 譯成有主語(yǔ)的主動(dòng)句。

翻譯時(shí)，更換原文的主語(yǔ)或增加泛指性的主語(yǔ)。

A right kind of fuel is needed for an atomic reactor.

原子反應(yīng)堆需要一種適宜的燃料。

To explore the moon’s surface，rockets were launched again and again.

為了探測(cè)月球的表面，人們一次又一次地發(fā)射火箭。

(2) 譯成無(wú)主句。

翻譯時(shí)，把原文的主語(yǔ)譯成動(dòng)詞的賓語(yǔ)，有時(shí)還可以把原文的主語(yǔ)并入謂語(yǔ)一起譯。

When work is done against friction，heat is produced．

當(dāng)克服摩擦而做功時(shí)，就產(chǎn)生熱。

2. 長(zhǎng)句的翻譯

前面我們?cè)?jīng)說(shuō)過(guò)，大量使用長(zhǎng)難句是英語(yǔ)科技文章的一個(gè)特點(diǎn)。要正確地理解和翻譯英語(yǔ)科技文章的長(zhǎng)句，必須首先分析理解原文的句法結(jié)構(gòu)，找出整個(gè)句子的中心內(nèi)容及其各層意思，分析幾層意思之間的邏輯關(guān)系，然后再根據(jù)漢語(yǔ)的習(xí)慣正確地翻譯原文。對(duì)于英語(yǔ)科技文章的長(zhǎng)難句一般采用順譯、倒譯、分譯、綜合四種翻譯方法。

2.1 順譯

當(dāng)英語(yǔ)長(zhǎng)句的句法結(jié)構(gòu)、時(shí)間順序、邏輯關(guān)系符合漢語(yǔ)習(xí)慣時(shí)，可采用順譯的方法。

In the course of designing a structure，you have to take into consideration what kind of load the above mentioned structure will be subjected，where on the structure the said load will do what is expected and whether the load on the structure is put into position all of a sudden or applied by degree．

分析：該句為主從復(fù)合句，what kind of．．．subjected，where．．．expected和whether．．．degree是動(dòng)詞take的三個(gè)賓語(yǔ)從句。此句的語(yǔ)法結(jié)構(gòu)與邏輯關(guān)系基本與漢語(yǔ)相同，可按原文順序翻譯。

譯文：在設(shè)計(jì)一個(gè)結(jié)構(gòu)物時(shí)，必須考慮到：結(jié)構(gòu)物將承受什么樣的荷載，荷載將在結(jié)構(gòu)物的什么地方起作用，以及這荷載是突然施加的，還是逐漸施加的。

The cables bear on specially constructed saddles on the towers，which are shaped to accommodate them，the saddles being either fixed so that the cables may slide over them，or mounted on rollers

2.2 倒譯

當(dāng)英語(yǔ)長(zhǎng)句的句法結(jié)構(gòu)、時(shí)間順序、邏輯關(guān)系與漢語(yǔ)習(xí)慣相反時(shí)，可采用倒譯的方法。

This is why the hot water system in a furnace will operate without the use of a water pump，if the pipes are arranged so that the hottest water rises while the coldest water runs down again to the furnace．

分析：這是一個(gè)主從復(fù)合句。why引導(dǎo)表語(yǔ)從句，在從句中還有一個(gè)if引導(dǎo)的條件從句，該條件從句是the hot water．．．a(chǎn) water pump的條件狀語(yǔ)。在條件從句中so that又引導(dǎo)結(jié)果狀語(yǔ)從句。此句應(yīng)采用倒譯的方法即按漢語(yǔ)的表達(dá)習(xí)慣將條件狀語(yǔ)放在前面。

譯文：如果管子的安裝能使最熱的水上升，而最冷的水流下來(lái)后再返回鍋爐里去，那么，鍋爐中的熱水系統(tǒng)不用水泵就能循環(huán)，道理就在此。

The bending moments，shear and axial forces，and deflections of reinforced concrete frames at any stage of loading from zero to ultimate load can be determined analytically using the conditions of static equilibrium and geometric compatibility，if the moment-curvature relationships of the sections are known．

分析：這是一個(gè)主從復(fù)合句。if引導(dǎo)條件從句，主句較長(zhǎng)，主句的主語(yǔ)為the bending moments．．．from zero to ultimate load，在主句中using．．．geometric compatibility為狀語(yǔ)，修飾主句動(dòng)詞can be determined。該句應(yīng)采用倒譯的方法按漢語(yǔ)的表達(dá)習(xí)慣將條件狀語(yǔ)放在前面翻譯。

譯文：如果截面的彎矩——曲率關(guān)系已知，鋼筋混凝土框架從零到極限荷載間任一加載階段的彎矩、剪力、軸向力和撓度，均可以通過(guò)靜力平衡與幾何相容兩個(gè)條件應(yīng)用解析方法來(lái)確定。
